Denver Kids, Inc.

Since 2000, proceeds from the Martin Luther King, Jr. business Awards have funded college scholarships for students who face circumstances that may make it difficult to prioritize their education.  Denver Kids, which merged with Denver Urban Scholars in 2019, awards Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships to students who demonstrate a commitment to educational achievements, community values, personal development and career goals.  Denver Kids partners with Metropolitan State University of Denver, University of Colorado at Denver and Community College of Denver  Each of these institutions math Denver Kids funds dollar-for-dollar to double the total amount of the scholarship funds awarded.

Not only are 41% of Denver Kids students first generation high school graduates, on average 71% are the first in their families to pursue post-secondary education.  Denver Kids provides scholarships to these students, who face numerous real and perceived obstacles in pursuing post-secondary education.  Denver Kids recognizes the value of higher education to prepare students for successful careers and future positions of leadership in our community.  More than 80% of the students who attend college in the Denver area choose to stay in the community to pursue their careers.  Providing scholarships to MLK Scholars is truly an investment in Denver’s economy and serves to diversify the future leaders of our city.
